MT150 head to White Rock Wind Farm

#

Simon White, member of MT150 Inverell (NSW) describes a recent outing where he and his Table mates took a visit to White Rock Wind Farm, about 40km east of Inverell.

“This visit was organised to coincide with RUOK Day, as a way to show the site crew the kind of support and mateship that The Men’s Table can offer, especially during the ups and downs we all face.

We left Inverell at noon, heading to the site for a BBQ lunch generously provided by Goldwind Australia. After a brief site induction and an introduction to the operations centre, the crew was eager to get up close with the wind turbines!

We packed the utes and headed to Turbine 15, which was undergoing its regular service. The guys got to step inside the turbine, see the inner workings, and ask plenty of questions about the day-to-day operations of this 70-turbine wind farm.

As Wayne W. put it, “A very impressive operation.”

After that, we made our way up White Rock Mountain, sitting at about 1,300 metres above sea level. We were treated to stunning views of the surrounding area, including grazing cattle and young calves—highlighting how the wind farm operates harmoniously alongside privately owned farms. The questions kept flowing, and from my perspective, it was a refreshing reminder of just how remarkable this place is.
Seeing it through fresh eyes helped renew my own gratitude for working here. While some of the group had to head off, Dan and Paul stuck around for a quick tour of the 20MW Solar Farm on site. With nearly 73,000 panels, it may be considered a “small” solar farm, but the scale of the operation left everyone impressed. All in all, it was a fantastic outing for the MT150 crew!

Building on our relationships and sharing new experiences together will no doubt continue to help MT150 be successful. A huge thank you to the MT150 guys for making time mid-week for this visit. It was a lot of fun, and they were an absolute pleasure to show around.”
