FROM A FIRST TABLE TO A THRIVING ECOSYSTEM: CELEBRATING 300 MEN’S TABLES AND THE POWER OF CONNECTION IN CANBERRA

The Men’s Table, a grassroots, national charity creating safe places for men to have quality, intentional conversations about their lives, health and wellbeing, has reached a milestone this Men’s Health Week with its 300th Table, right here in Canberra named MT300 Luxton.

The ACT has become a showcase of what is possible when a community embraces the Men’s Table model at scale, with the highest concentration of Tables per capita in Australia. This allows them to influence community resilience and boost healthy men and families in a way that is unique to the territory.

At the heart of this achievement is the Snow Foundation’s commitment to long-term partnerships and trust. Over the past six years, this valued partnership has evolved from a foundational grant to build the first Tables in the ACT and in the NSW south coast region after the 2020 bushfires, into an alliance that continues to explore how the health and wellbeing of men and boys can be supported.

Since launching in 2019 with one Table of 12 men in Sydney, The Men’s Table has grown to now reach over 2900 men across the country. The men gather monthly to forge friendships and offer peer support over a simple meal and, as a result, improve their mental and emotional wellbeing.

MT300 Luxton grew from an invitation to address loneliness and mental health while attending the Ending Loneliness in Canberra Innovation Forum held in December 2025 . Present at the event were Nate and Tara Swift of Little Luxton, a social enterprise cafe with a mission to connect the community.

MT300 marks a significant milestone in The Men’s Table’s journey towards 1,000 Tables across the country by 2032. The men who gather at MT300 come seeking friendship, connection, and a place to have an honest conversation, and in doing so, they join a growing movement that is quietly transforming how men relate to themselves and each other. With 300 Tables now active across Australia, the vision of making caring connection the norm for men everywhere is becoming a reality.

QUOTES

Nate Swift – Little Luxton – “We were introduced to [Men’s Table Regional Host] Michael Collins and heard about the work they were doing. It immediately sounded like a good fit and now after just a few months I appreciate how my Men’s Table has given me a structured monthly opportunity to check in with other men about how we’re really going.”

Michael Collins – The Men’s Table – “Community champions are the bedrock of starting grass roots Tables. Having social entrepreneurs like Nate and Tara, and the support of the Snow Foundation working alongside us really makes a difference. We know from our seven years of experience that as the Table endures as a healthy community over the coming years, the impact will grow for these men, and their families and extended communities.”

Men’s Table Member – “I feel a real sense of belonging to a group, and I have a place where I feel heard and understood. From sitting at my Table I have a greater perspective on my own life and reflect on how I may have handled some things differently. Some of the group are older, so the norms accepted by my generation are not common for theirs. When I share they offer deep and diverse experiences from their lives which gives me a sense of ease. Whatever I am struggling with, when I share it I get wonderful feedback and perspective and I have more confidence in navigating my own life as a result.”

Georgina Byron, Snow Foundation CEO – “We congratulate The Men’s Table on reaching this milestone and are delighted to have the 300th table in Canberra. The strong uptake in the ACT reflects something important, men in our community are looking for spaces where they can build connection, talk honestly and support one another. That matters not only for the men involved but for families and the broader community.”
